Confidentiality of Electronic Documents in the Civil Registry of Brazil

Abstract

This work presents a cryptographic protocol for securing electronic documents in the Civil Registry of Brazil. The protocol is innovative because the document is encrypted and stored in the cloud but can be easily recovered by the owner if she has the access credentials, that is, a simple password and the owner identifier. The main objective is to keep the management of credentials by users as simple as possible while preventing anyone from accessing the stored document. The protocol was implemented using advanced electronic signature services of PDF standard. The implementation separates the public parts of the document, storing, in encrypted form, exclusively the private data and cryptographic artifacts.
